2 Chronicles 7:14 – Called by my name

Called By My Name

2Ch7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Isa 43:7  Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

These are just a few scriptures where the phrase “called by my name” is used (See also: Isa 65:1; Jer 7:10-11, 14, 30, 25:29, 32:34, 34:15; Amos 9:12)

This is the same manner of speaking commonly found used throughout the Bible; “in the name of”, “in my Father’s  name”, “called by my name” and “upon whom my name is called, etc., none of which indicate people (or things) literally addressed as some other person name, which in most cases refer to God’s sacred name “YHWH” (Yahweh, Jehovah, “the LORDin KJV). (See: The Name of God)

“Which are called by my name” & “Upon whom my name is called”

Upon whom my name is called (Acts 15:17), or “who are regarded as my people,” is an Aramaic mode of saying “who are called by my name.” The expression is so translated Jas 2:7 (Deut 28:10).

“My people that are called by My name.” All men are His creatures, only a select and peculiar inheritance that bears His name and are in covenant with Him are called His people (Eze 16:8; Psa 4:3; Isa 43:21; Isa 63:18; Acts 15:14). To be called by His name notes to be His adopted children.

We are God’s people—
(1) By visible profession or sacramental separation from the world, as the whole nation of the Jews are called His people (Exo 19:5; Deut 4:7).
(2) By spiritual sanctification and internal dispositions (John 17:6; Gal 6:16; Rom 2:29, 9:8; Php 3:3).
